What is a disc check valve and how does it work?
A wafer-style spring-loaded check valve in which a single disc moves along the axis of the bore, guided centrally, and is closed by a calibrated spring. There is no hinge and no swinging mass. It is the most compact check valve of all — sandwiched between two flanges — and its short, axial travel gives fast closure and a tight seal on small and medium clean lines.
Which body, disc, seat and spring materials are available?
Body in stainless steel 304/316, with duplex and soft-seated bodies available. Disc in 316 stainless for metal-to-metal seating, or PTFE-lined with a calibrated spring. Seat metal-to-metal as standard, with PTFE, EPDM and NBR soft-seat options. Spring in stainless steel, calibrated for the service, with alloy springs on request.
What size, pressure rating and temperature range apply?
DN 15 to DN 150 (½″–6″), rated up to 20 bar (300 psi), at approximately −10 °C to +200 °C depending on the seal. Wafer connection, sandwiched between ANSI or PN flanges. Tested to API 598, with EN 12266-1 rate D or E testing on request. Suitable media include water, steam, condensate, oil and gases.
Disc check or wafer check — which should I specify?
A disc check is the tighter and faster of the two on small clean lines up to 6″ — spring-assisted, axially guided and available with a metal-to-metal seat for steam and condensate. A wafer check valve covers a much wider size range, from 2″ up to 42″, and is the economical choice on larger bores. Below 6″ on clean service choose the disc check; above that, the wafer design.
