What is a PTFE seated butterfly valve and how does it work?
A concentric wafer-style butterfly valve whose liner is virgin PTFE more than 3 mm thick rather than an elastomer. A quarter turn swings the disc into the seat to seal. Replacing rubber with PTFE widens the chemical range enormously — PTFE resists acids, solvents and oxidisers that would swell or attack EPDM, NBR or Viton — while keeping the compact, economical butterfly format.
Which body, disc and seat materials are available?
Body in Ductile Iron (ASTM A536), Carbon Steel (WCB), 316 stainless, CF3/CF3M, duplex, Hastelloy C-276 or titanium. Disc and stem in 316 stainless (ASTM A351 CF8M), with PTFE-coated stainless, PFA lined, Hastelloy and duplex options. Seat and liner in virgin PTFE over 3 mm thick. PTFE stem bushings with NBR/EPDM O-rings, or FEP/FKM double shaft seals and graphite bushings. Iron bodies carry epoxy or polyurethane coating.
What size, pressure rating and temperature range apply?
DN 50 to DN 600 (2″–24″) in wafer body style, rated up to 10 bar, at −20 °C to +200 °C depending on seat. Shut-off is bubble-tight Class VI. Built to API 609 and ISO 5752/558, tested to API 598, EN 12266-1 and ISO 5208. An ISO 5211 pad takes lever, gearbox, pneumatic or electric actuation.
PTFE seated or fully lined — which do I need?
A PTFE seated valve has a PTFE liner but a metal disc and shaft in contact with the media, so it suits chemically aggressive service that a rubber seat could not take. A fully lined butterfly valve has PTFE over every wetted surface including the disc, which is what severe acid and solvent duty needs. Choose PTFE seated for chemical resistance with metal trim; choose fully lined when nothing metallic may touch the media.
