What is a three piece threaded end ball valve and how does it work?
A three piece body — two end caps and a removable centre section — supplied with screwed or socket weld ends for small-bore pipework. A quarter turn opens or closes the full bore. The combination is particularly useful on welded small-bore lines: the end caps stay welded in place and the centre section lifts out for seat replacement, so you service the valve without cutting and re-welding pipe.
Which body, ball and seat materials are available?
Body and end piece in WCB, CF8 (SS 304), CF8M (SS 316), duplex and other alloys. Ball in SS 304, SS 316 or ENP coated; stem in SS 304, SS 316, EN8 or ENP coated. Seats in PTFE, RPTFE, carbon-filled PTFE, PEEK or metal; seals in PTFE, Viton or graphite; fasteners in high tensile steel or stainless.
What size, pressure class, end connections and standards apply?
½″ to 4″ at Class 150#, full bore. Screwed or threaded ends to ANSI B1.20.1, socket weld to ANSI B16.11. Designed to BS EN ISO 17292 (BS 5351), BS EN ISO 12516, BS EN 1983, ASME B16.34 and API 6D, tested to API 598, with fire safe design to API 607 / ISO 10497 available.
Why choose this over a two piece threaded valve?
Because of socket weld pipework. On a two piece threaded valve, replacing seats means unscrewing or cutting the valve out of the line. On the three piece version the welded end caps stay put and only the centre section comes out — turning a pipefitting job into a spanner job. If the valve will ever need servicing on a welded line, the three piece design pays for itself the first time.
