What is a lug style butterfly valve and how does it work?
A concentric butterfly valve whose body carries threaded lugs around its rim, so each pipe flange bolts to the valve independently rather than through it. A quarter turn swings the disc into or across the flow. Because each side is bolted separately, downstream pipework can be removed while the valve still holds line pressure — which is what makes it the standard choice for end-of-line service and maintenance isolation points.
Which body, disc and seat materials are available?
Body in Ductile Iron (ASTM A536), Carbon Steel (WCB) or CF8/CF8M stainless, with CF3/CF3M, Alloy 20, duplex and super duplex on request. Disc in ductile iron, aluminium bronze or 316 stainless, with Hastelloy and special alloys available. Seat and liner in EPDM, NBR, Viton, PTFE, silicone, Hypalon or metal. Stem in 410/316 stainless, duplex or Monel, with PTFE bushings and NBR/EPDM O-rings, or graphite and high-temperature elastomers.
What size, pressure rating and temperature range apply?
DN 50 to DN 1200 (2″–50″), rated up to 150 psi (10 bar), with dead-end service to approximately 75 psi. Operating temperature −29 °C to +200 °C depending on seal material. Shut-off is Class VI bubble-tight. Built to API 609 (Class A/B) and MSS-SP-67 with an ISO 5211 mounting pad, tested to API 598, EN 12266-1 and ISO 5208. Bodies carry an epoxy powder coating, with special linings available for potable water or aggressive media.
Why is the dead-end pressure rating lower than the line rating?
With downstream pipework removed, the seat alone holds the full line pressure and there is no opposing flange to support the liner. That is why dead-end service is limited to about 75 psi against 150 psi in-line. If your isolation point will regularly sit open-ended at higher pressure, say so at enquiry — a double flanged body or a different valve type may be the safer specification.
